The eagerly anticipated return of Cardiff’s iconic ROOFTOP CINEMA happens next month (May 4th and 5th) at Jacobs Rooftop Garden. Promising an unforgettable cinematic experience against the stunning backdrop of the Welsh capital’s skyline, this two-night event will feature screenings of two beloved Welsh classics: “HUMAN TRAFFIC” and “TWIN TOWN” marking their 26th anniversary.
Located atop Jacobs Rooftop Garden, attendees will be treated to breath taking 360-degree views of Cardiff’s cityscape. Adding to the allure, the venue will host a rooftop bar serving an array of refreshing beverages and delectable street food offerings, creating an atmosphere of relaxation and enjoyment under the stars.
Organised by Lost Lands, renowned for their innovative film screenings in unconventional spaces, the Cardiff Rooftop Cinema has been a fixture of the city’s cultural scene for eight years. Their dedication to transforming ordinary locations into extraordinary cinematic experiences continues to captivate audiences.
In Human Traffic, four of British teens attempts to leave behind the malaise of their 9-to-5 lives with weekend escapes into the drug-fueled club culture. Although the cast was relatively new back then, they have all gone on to become stars in their own right, in particular John Simm and Danny Dyer.
Twin Town is about as Welsh as you can get. Jeremy and Julian Lewis are two unruly brothers who terrorise Swansea from the caravan park where they live with their family. When their father, Fatty, is injured while working on a roof for local kingpin Bryn Cartwright, they try in vain to claim compensation.
So begins a campaign of terror, which local policemen Terry and Grayo are ill-equipped to prevent, involved as they are in a drugs deal with Cartwright.
This is the film which set Rhys Ifans on the road to Notting Hill fame.
Guests can recline in comfortable deck chairs equipped with wireless headphones, ensuring an immersive audio visual journey into the heart of each film. As the sun sets, the screenings will commence, transporting viewers back in time to the vibrant streets of Cardiff portrayed in these iconic Welsh productions.
Whether you’re a seasoned fan of “Human Traffic” and “Twin Town” or simply seeking a unique cinematic adventure, the Cardiff Rooftop Cinema promises an unforgettable evening of entertainment, community, and nostalgia against the backdrop of the city’s twinkling skyline.
