You’ve got to love the summer holidays. Six weeks of ‘at home‘ time, kids buzzing with energy while you search for things for them to do. Now all of that is fine for a day or two, but times that by 42 (total days in the summer holidays) and you really do need some useful ideas.

Over the next few weeks we’ll bring you plenty of ideas for things to do to keep you and the kids entertained: Top of the list has to be a visit to the theatre and we have four (one left) absolutely cracking shows heading our way to keep us all at the New Theatre in Cardiff .

First up, we enjoyed a visit from everyone’s favourite Gran. GANGSTA GRANNY. You can take a look at our review of the show, and find out what the ‘Childs‘ family Winnie, Nancy and Mum Jess thought of the show HERE.

Next, we had TIDDLER AND OTHER TERRIFIC TALES before moving on to DINOSAUR WORLD LIVE, a roarsome interactive show for all the family.

This weekend we see IN THE NIGHT GARDEN…LIVE heading our way with Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka and friends back in their fun-filled live show Igglepiggle’s Busy Day!

Join Igglepiggle as he looks for his friends in the Night Garden by following their funny sounds until he finds them all!

You’ll see all your favourite characters beautifully brought to life with full-size costumes, magical puppets, and enchanting music. The show lasts just under an hour and your little ones will be amazed when they see a very special visit from the amazing flying Pinky Ponk.

In the Night Garden is about a magical picture-book place that exists between waking and sleeping in a child’s imagination. Inhabited by a diverse community of loveable characters that care for each other unconditionally.

As little ones are carried into a happy yet calming world of music and nursery rhymes, the programme can be used at home as part of your little one’s bedtime or naptime routine. Try using it to sooth and relax them and help you get them snuggled into bed without any fuss.

The TV shows were shot in a real woodland setting in the UK. It makes use of innovations in live character costume technology and CG animation, weaving these together within a stunning natural setting to create a compelling and fully immersive experience for young children. It has been devised and produced by Teletubbies creators, Anne Wood and Andy Davenport.

In the Night Garden takes children on an imaginative journey. Igglepiggle and other Night Garden characters are real friends to some small children. Inspired by magical journeys in episodes, your little one may then live out their own adventure through imaginative play.

In the Night Garden works in partnership with child sleep specialists and early year’s educational practitioners, our aim is to help little ones grow.

In The Night Garden Live – The New Theatre Cardiff this weekend

In the Night Garden Live is the perfect musical theatre experience for the entire family. Children’s favourite CBeebies stars – Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, Makka Pakka and friends – are all brought beautifully to life in a specially-written new story using full-size costumes and magical puppets with enchanting music and dancing.

This delightful classic, which premiered in 2010 before becoming a summer entertainment fixture, is a firm favourite with young pre-schoolers and their parents.  Seen by over one million people, the critically acclaimed production has established itself as a must-see first theatre experience for young children.

Oliver Seadon, Executive Producer said ….

“When we made In the Night Garden Live we never imagined it would run for 10 years and that over a million visitors would come to see it. It’s incredibly exciting now to be making a brand-new show and taking it into theatres all over the country. This will be the first time that audiences get to see In the Night Garden Live in their local theatre.”

Director Will Tuckett added……

“Children know these characters so well, much better than we ever might think. They see them as proper friends- when they appear on stage live they are seeing friends liberated from the television or tablet. They are there, waving at THEM.  Taking your child to see them live on stage is an extraordinary experience – it’s a genuinely heartwarming and truly magical thing and makes me love my job as much as I do.”

IN THE NIGHT GARDEN…LIVE – TRAILER

Now in its 13th year, In the Night Garden Live is one of the UK’s favourite family events. Over 1.2 million people have seen it so far and it gets 4.8 out of 5 stars based on 13,610 parents’ reviews.

There are other shows for young children, but as The Independent wrote, “there’s nothing quite like In the Night Garden Live.”

Pip-pip, onk-onk!
