INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY (IWD) is a global day-long event celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity. Over the years the event has grown significantly as groups come together to celebrate women’s achievements or rally for women’s equality.
Marked annually on March 8th, IWD is one of the most important days of the year to……
- celebrate women’s achievements
- educate and awareness raise for women’s equality
- call for positive change advancing women
- lobby for accelerated gender parity
- fundraise for female-focused charities

As you can see from the picture above, purple is the colour of International Women’s Day along with green and white. Purple signifies justice and dignity, and being loyal to the cause. Green symbolises hope. White represents purity, albeit a controversial concept. The colours originated from the Women’s Social and Political Union (WSPU) in the UK in 1908.
In Pontypridd you can join their celebration of the day at the towns Museum, actually, they are holding two events next month.
