January saw SHED SEVEN get their 30th anniversary celebrations underway in style when ‘A Matter of Time’ became their first ever No.1 album. Having waited three decades to land that accomplishment, Shed Seven could now make it two No.1 albums within a year as their new orchestral reworks album ‘Liquid Gold’ is sitting at No.1 in the UK Midweek Album Chart – and it looks likely to be a two-horse race between Shed Seven and Bring Me The Horizon.
The ‘Liquid Gold’ campaign has darted from highlight-to-highlight, taking in a sold-out in-store tour, a phenomenal set at Radio 2 In The Park, a BBC Radio 2 playlist and a Piano Room session, and Amazing Radio’s Track of the Week for recent single ‘Waiting For The Catch’. The new album features fresh arrangements that feature strings, brass and gospel vocals on some of their signature songs (‘Chasing Rainbows’, ‘Getting Better’, ‘Going For Gold’ and many more) while other less discovered favourites are put back in the spotlight. It also includes brand new song ‘All Roads Lead To You’.
So, we caught up with Shed Seven vocalist RICK WITTER recently to chat about the album. We also spoke about their incredible live shows, which sees them play the Great Hall in Cardiff on Friday 15th November. But we started with their show-stopping performance at Radio Two in the Park recently……
Fan interest has been phenomenal with numerous formats already sold-out, but anyone eager to support the Sheds’ second shot at the top slot can buy the album HERE. The CD version of the ‘Demos Edition’ has just been released, a set of demos which capture the raw energy that the band exuded in their early days. All profits from the CD format of the ‘Demos Edition’ will be donated to the Music Venue Trust, which supports grassroots music venues across the UK – places which have been vital to every moment of Shed Seven’s long and storied career.
Guitarist Paul Banks told us….
“We’re absolutely over the moon to share that we’ve hit NUMBER ONE in the Official Charts midweek update! But it’s a long week ahead, and there are just 600 sales between us and the number two spot!
Shed Seven has had an incredible 30 years, and this year has been nothing short of unforgettable. We’ve climbed every rung of the ladder in this industry, starting out in independent venues. When we look back at the places we played in 1994, it’s heartbreaking to see how many have closed their doors. Independent bands need independent labels, record shops and venues, and we want to give something back. That’s why we’re thrilled to release a limited edition ‘Liquid Gold’ CD, with all profits going to the Music Venues Trust. It features demos that really capture the rawness of Shed Seven, that same energy we had when we played those venues early in our career. Without independent venues, there would be no Shed Seven.
So, If you want to support us this week and help make chart history, you can do it by backing the venues that made this all possible for us and so many other artists. A second number one would be the icing on the cake… can we make it happen together?”
Vocalist Rick Witter adds…..
“It’s important for all new up-and-coming young acts to have the opportunity to play venues like these, as it’s a crucial part of any artist’s journey to get a foothold on the musical path. Long may these venues exist.”
The ever-industrious SHED SEVEN have already completed seven in-store shows since ‘Liquid Gold’ was released on Friday and there are another eight to run this week alone. Their touring schedule also includes select ‘Change Giver’ shows before their full 30th anniversary tour gets underway in November and culminates at the O2 Academy Brixton. Very limited tickets remain for their gig at the Great Hall in Cardiff on Friday 15th November. Tickets and details HERE.
