The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort will be marked with events across the country and a concert at Windsor Castle. Their Majesties want to encourage people to spend the Coronation Weekend celebrating with friends, families and their communities.

The Coronation Service
The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort will take place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday 6th May 2023.
The Service will be conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury and will reflect the Monarch’s role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry.
Their Majesties will arrive at Westminster Abbey in procession from Buckingham Palace, known as ‘The King’s Procession’.
After the Service, Their Majesties will return to Buckingham Palace in a larger ceremonial procession, known as ‘The Coronation Procession’. Their Majesties will be joined in this procession by other Members of the Royal Family.
At Buckingham Palace, The King and The Queen Consort, accompanied by Members of the Royal Family, will appear on the balcony to conclude the day’s ceremonial events.

The Coronation Concert
On Sunday 7th May 2023, a special Coronation Concert will be staged and broadcast live at Windsor Castle by the BBC and BBC Studios. Several thousand pairs of tickets have been made available via public ballot, which has now closed.
The Coronation Big Lunch
The Coronation Big Lunch, at which neighbours and communities are invited to share food and fun together, will take place across the country, also on Sunday 7th May 2023

Also on Monday 8th May 2023, members of the public will be invited to take part in The Big Help Out, which will encourage people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.

SATURDAY 6th MAY
SERVICE AND ROYAL GUN SALUTE – CARDIFF CASTLE: 9:30am to 2:30pm (FREE)
Cardiff Castle will host a large screen in the grounds for visitors to watch the Coronation Service – and the processions to and from Westminster Abbey. The Castle will also participate in the official gun salute, as part of a network of salutes, which will take place across the country as the crown is placed on the King’s Head.
104 Regiment Royal Artillery, Regimental Mascots from The Royal Welsh and The 1st Queens Dragoon Guards, Welsh Guards and the Regimental Band and Corps of Drums of the Royal Welsh will be in attendance. The Coronation event starts at 10am, and the gates will open from 9.30am for those wanting to attend the event. It will remain open to the public throughout the day.

FOODIES FESTIVAL – BUTE PARK (ALL WEEKEND) (Tickets from £18)
FOODIES FESTIVAL visits Cardiff for a huge three-day celebration to mark the Coronation of His Majesty The King & Her Majesty The Queen Consort, with a royal recipe of celebrity chefs and chart-topping music stars.
Known as Gastro-Glastonbury, the UK’s biggest touring celebrity food and music festival will take place at Cardiff’s prestigious Bute Park across the Coronation Bank Holiday weekend 6th – 8th May. The event features live cooking demonstrations from top chefs drawn from the ranks of TV’s MasterChef, Great British Bake Off and Great British Menu, plus top-rated Michelin-starred and award-winning chefs from across Wales.
Music headliners include Scouting for Girls, Toploader, Craig Charles and Callum Beattie.
Throughout the 3 day weekend, visitors will enjoy a royally themed schedule of TV cooking show champions and award-winning chefs in the interactive live theatres. In the Chefs Theatre, celebrities will create their signature dishes and share new tips and tricks, whilst in the Cake & Bake Theatre, star bakers whip up showstoppers and offer tempting sweet treats.

COMMUNITY CORONATION PARTY – CWMBRAN: 11am
Join us at the White Hut from 11am on Saturday 6th May to celebrate the King’s coronation. There will be a big screen showing the event, bouncy castles, entertainment for the whole family, food and drink and local business stalls.

PICNIC IN THE PARK – GRIFFIN PARK PORTHCAWL: 11am to 3pm FREE)
Porthcawl Town Council are arranging a Picnic in Griffin Park for the local community to come together and watch the Coronation on a big screen. A variety of family orientated activities and food stalls have been arranged alongside some local musical entertainment.

SUNDAY 7th MAY
RIGHT ROYAL PICNIC – CARDIFF CASTLE: 12pm to 4pm (FREE)
Dress up, gather your family and friends and join together in Cardiff Castle for a Right Royal Picnic as part of The Coronation Big Lunch across the UK. The festivities include a programme of live music and themed walkabout entertainment, creating a celebratory atmosphere and a focus for people to share food and fun together.
Visitors are encouraged to bring their own picnic or to make use of the Castle Cafe. Cardiff Castle will be open as usual, if you want to take the opportunity to buy a ticket to Cardiff Castle.
CORONATION CHILDREN’S PARTY – PONTYPRIDD: 2pm to 4pm
They are holding A Free Children’s Coronation Party on Sunday 7th of May between 2 and 4pm with A Professional entertainer and Children’s refreshments. Details HERE.
THE CONCERT – CARDIFF BAY: 7:30pm to 11pm (FREE)
Cardiff Bay has been chosen to host an official relay of the Coronation Concert and take part in a synchronised light show, among other select locations in the UK. Watch the concert, broadcast from Windsor Castle, on a large screen in Roald Dahl Plass.
During the evening, the centrepiece will be ‘Lighting up the Nation’, which will see the country join in celebration, as iconic British locations are animated with an incredible, immersive high-tech light show experience, using an array of lasers and drones to create the illuminations.

THE BIG CLEAN UP – EBBW VALE: 10am to 3pm
The Big Clean Up is an opportunity for the local community to support the centre in spring cleaning the centre. Volunteers will help the Centre team clean the rooms and the grounds, so if you like cleaning, gardening , DIY or just like making tea, then this will be for you, and you will making a huge difference to the Centre and it’s users.
Lunch will be provided. We will start at 10am and aim to finish at 3pm on Monday 8th May 2023. You can help for an hour, half the day or a full day. We will be happy for any help you can provide.

YMCA Neath believes in fairness and opportunity.
