The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have announced they are to visit the market town of Abergavenny today, St David’s Day (1st March). During their visit they’ll drop in on Pant Farm, which has been providing goat milk to a local cheese producer for the almost 20 years.

Pant farm is run by Gary and Jess Yeomans which is in Llanvetherine just outside Abergavenny and only 5 miles from the factory they supply. They have hosted many customer visits for us over the years, including a visit from HRH The Prince of Wales in 2002. They now milk around 600 goats and produce as much food for them on the farm as they can.

Jess said……

“We have been producing goat’s milk since 2002 and it has all gone to make soft goat’s cheese in the Abergavenny Creamery. We have hosted numerous customer visits to the farm, including all the major supermarkets, various fast food chains and other cheese retailers.”

From there, the royal couple will move on to Abergavenny Market, always a popular place for visitors to the town. They’ll meet up with traders and local suppliers, and get a chance to see the redevelopment work which has taken place in the market hall.

I’m sure they won’t have time to buy anything, but if they are looking to stock up the freezer, the meat stall has some great deals, and Gary has great offers on kitchen appliances.

There really isn’t a better place to mark St David’s Day than right in the heart of Abergavenny.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will then visit Blaenavon Hwb, a youth centre that helps to support more than 600 local young people. The royal couple will ‘plant a tree for the jubilee’ as part of the Green Canopy programme, a UK-wide tree planting initiative to mark Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022, by inviting people to “Plant a tree for the Jubilee”

We also hear rumour that the royal couple will be making Welsh Cakes during their visit – it’s St David’s Day so that is a must really.
