We caught with the team on track ahead of the weekend event and took a tour of the circuit (in a car) to see how it was looking.

ABERDARE PARK ROAD RACES

Aberdare Park Road Races is a National Road Race here in the South Wales Valleys, one of the few remaining road races in the UK.

A revelation that shocks people who are new to this race is that we turn a Victorian park into a racetrack in less than 72 hours! There’s a small, dedicated and brilliant team that works tirelessly through the year, but the visible work is done in 72 hours!

Once again, some of the best riders from across the UK head to the County to compete on the unique circuit around Aberdare Park. The event, organised by Aberaman Motorcycle Club and supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, started back in 1950. Actually, there was some illicit, and highly illegal were held around the park from 1948, but officially the start date was 1950 when the government gave in and allowed the first legal race to be held around the perimeter of this incredible Victorian park.

ABERDARE PARK ROAD RACES

Aberdare Park Road Races are giving the competitors in the Welsh Open and Park Challenge classes to win extra prize money this year. Thanks to the generous donations of £500 each from Willis Marshall and Hywel Griffiths, a £1,000 prize pot has been created to be distributed to the top three riders who accumulate the most points in these classes.

At the end of the weekend, the riders with the most accumulated points will be awarded as follows:

1st Place: £500

2nd Place: £300

3rd Place: £200

The winner will also be crowned the ‘Aberdare Ace‘ for 2024, adding an extra layer of prestige to their achievements.

Race Director Derek Smith told us…..

“After a fantastic conversation with Willis Marshall and Hywel Griffiths of TH Racing, I have to say I am totally blown away with the enthusiasm and passion for Aberdare Park. We are very excited to welcome the team on board not only as competitors but as major sponsors and friends of our special event. This year is set to be incredibly competitive and this generous donation to the prize money pot can certainly help our riders and teams.”

The additional prize money is expected to intensify the competition and elevate the excitement for both riders and spectators. As the anticipation builds, Aberdare Park Road Races 2024 promises to be a thrilling event, with top riders vying for glory at one the best race meetings on the calendar.
