By now we’ve all become used to this period of lockdown and accept it’s something we all have to do. So, if self isolation is the game we have to play for a short while, then why don’t we all embrace it and finally get around to doing the things we always said we’d do. Those silly little things which only ever get done when we are desperately bored or can’t take another episode of Cash In The Attic.

Here are 40 ideas for things you may like to tackle during these ‘at home’ days. We’ve broken them down into four sections so you can tackle 10 at a time.

  1. Empty your tights or sock drawer and throw out the ones with holes in.
  2. Hand wash all your jumpers and delicates
  3. Unsubscribe from every email that you curse at when they arrive in your inbox.
  4. Clean all your lightbulbs and replace the ones that are bust.
  5. Look through your old photos and recreate them, clothes as well if you have them handy. Here’s a few to get you started. BLUNDER
  6. Bake a cake. From start to finish, not from an instant cake mix pack. Here’s a very basic recipe to start you off. CAKE
  7. Grab all the stuff from the back of your wardrobe and cupboards and sell it on EBay. Need some tips on selling? TIPS
  8. Give yourself a manicure (guys too). You may not be able to go for one for a while, so better give it a go. MANICURE
  9. Exercise. We’ve all been promising to do it, now is the perfect opportunity.
  10. Everyone say’s it’s the greatest movie ever made so watch CITIZEN KANE. And if you don’t like it, watch CITIZEN KHAN.
  1. Go through all the contacts in your phone and ditch the ones you never use and attach photos to those you do.
  2. Check if anyone owes you money. You’ve seen the adverts so why not check yourself. You may be surprised.
  3. Start and complete a jigsaw. You’ll be surprised how much you’ll enjoy the frustration of it all.
  4. Sorry, I hate that I’m even adding this one to the list. Complete all the DIY you’ve been threatening forever.
  5. Learn to play an instrument. You don’t even need an instrument, a tablet or phone will do. YOUISCAN
  6. Call your Nana. You never call her enough so now really is the time to make her day.
  7. Start a BLOG. It’s really easy to set up, perhaps through WordPress and is a great way to share your feelings.
  8. Re-watch every episode of your favourite series. BUFFY, THE SOPRANOS, GAME OF THRONES. There’s plenty of them.
  9. Research your Family Tree. Ancestry are offering a free trial. FAMILY
  10. Go to a gig, in your living room. They’re all it now. Chris Martin, Christine & The Queens, Gary Barlow. If you don’t mind some self-indulgence here. KEITH URBAN is a must. He is cool as you like and here is his recent Isolation Gig.
  1. Learn how to knit. This is certainly not the domain of your Grandma, it’s fun, challenging and surprisingly rewarding.
  2. Learn to write with your opposite hand. It’s a tricky one this but fun it if you master it. Here’s Luke giving it a go. OPPOSITE
  3. Learn another language. Even if it’s just the basics, give it a shot.
  4. Start a movie club with your mates. Arrange to watch a film at the same time, Face Time each other and give your opinions as you go.
  5. Dust. We mean really dust. Plants, under chairs, tables, the whole works. May as well, it’ll help the greater cause.
  6. While you’re about it, pull the sofa and beds out and give them the once over.
  7. Put everything into alphabetic order. Book, CDs, DVDs, better still, grab them all up and sell them if you no longer use them.
  8. Learn to play the spoons. Seriously, you have the tools and now here’s your instructor. We all love a bit of spooning. TEACHER
  9. Join a Stay At Home Choir. They are popping up all over the world and a great way to bring us together through song. CHOIR
  10. Grab a colouring book and let your creative juices flow. It’s excellent for stress and relaxation. Here’s one to get you started.
  1. Grow your own veg. You need very little, in fact a bucket and soil is enough to get you started. Potatoes love a bucket.
  2. Learn to fold your T Shirts properly. I never knew there was a wrong way, till now. SHIRTS
  3. Shred that axe, well, learn to play the violin. This is great if the kids are learning at school. Nicola Benedetti is a great tutor. VIOLIN
  4. Nap. After all this strenuous cleaning and exercising, you all deserve a mid-afternoon nap.
  5. The movie is out now so why not play the classic game. SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, is free too. SONIC
  6. Turn on your big screen and go to the beach with this live webcam. The Hotel Del Coronado is beautiful. Daytime is best. BEACH
  7. Plan an At Home Party. If you’re all in this together, make a date, time, get dressed up and party on dudes.
  8. Watch a movie series, in order. STAR WARS, MARVEL, FAST & FURIOUS. INDIANA JONES (Apologies for number 4).
  9. Watch every episode of FRIDAY NIGHT DINNER, it’s free on All Four and worth watching or re-watching anytime.
  10. Our favourite. Plan a massive holiday for when all this madness is over. Where you’ll go, what you’ll see and most of all, how much saving do you have to do to make it happen.
